Writing Prompt: Nightmares
Describe the last nightmare you remember having. What do you think it meant?
Something grabbed me and held me down. I was unable to move. I can’t say what it was. I don’t remember a face, only arms and hands restraining me. I was terrified and at times felt like I couldn’t breathe. I felt my body being shaken, as though I was being awakened from a strange and unfamiliar state of being; but no matter how much I was shaken, I could not get free of the hold on me. I felt myself crying as though, for a moment, I was outside of my body watching myself.
I didn’t realize how frightened I was until my partner shook me awake. It was then that I knew I was dreaming. He said I was whimpering and moaning pretty loud. I awoke to my heart beating fiercely. I was confused and frightened but his voice soothed me as he asked me repeatedly if I was ok.
Not sure, but maybe it had something to do with a couple of grilled cheese sandwiches I had NO business eating that night. Bound me like nobody’s business the next day and left me doubled over on the commode.
Note to self. Don’t eat two grilled cheese sandwiches (extra sharp cheese is so delicious) while aware of a life long lactose intolerance. No bueno. Not to mention that my body is no longer accustomed to dairy. Backsliding and cheating never pay off. Back to my regular diet of fruits and vegetables and peaceful dreams.
