enough

My awakening began at my job in the summer of 1999. It was simple really. I never imagined something as innocuous as a request from my boss for a letter to be typed would usher me down the path to my long overdue destiny. But there I sat, staring at the computer screen, wondering why I wasn’t pursing my love, why I was not writing. I began typing the letter, trying desperately to read his incredibly bad handwriting, while thinking, why is this important? Why have we, as humans, created a life so full of inconsequential movement? We spend so much time, I thought, creating things that in the grand scheme of it all, will not transform our souls, will not move us to the next level of our spiritual, intellectual and emotional journey.

So I sat and typed, and decided, as I pounded away on the keys, that I would simply stop. I would stop making excuses for participating in such an overly complex and unnecessary lifestyle that did not serve my higher purpose. I would stop playing the game that so many told me I needed to play in order to succeed. I decide that success was not what defined me, but the ever unfolding journey. Within weeks, I started writing more poetry. Within months, I left my job and decided to pursue my writing full time.

The rigors of life began to rear its ugly head, however. Writing was not a stable means of income. I had to find a balance between survival, my love and a simple, stress free life, void of the drama we almost imperceptibly create for ourselves.

I am still traveling this path. But I trust that all will unfold in time.
