Collateral with Tom Cruise and Jamie Foxx churns out a tune called Hands of Time by Groove Armada. The soul soothing song plays during a scene where a cab is driving along a not so busy street, nightlights illuminating the beautiful city.
“Mmmm. Mmmm, hmmmm,” it opens. “Keep looking through the window pane, just tryin’ to see through the pouring rain; I really never felt quite the same, since I lost what I had to gain…no one to blame, no one to blame; seems to me, can’t turn back the hands of time,” he croons.
The images of a clock winding backwards flood my mind, but time keeps moving forward. The clock winds back faster, and my future moves in more quickly and determined. We can’t go back to change the things we’ve done. We can’t turn back the hands of time, but we can move forward with a new mind and heart. We can change our tomorrow by changing the way we see life.
Of course, it seems that life and time is spinning out of control at times and we can’t change our future. The tomorrows come faster, weeks rush by at the speed of light and before we know it, we go from 25 years old to 45 years old, all within what felt like a year. Some of our memories have become foggy and we wonder if our life was worthwhile, did we make a difference? Did I have a purpose?
We can’t go back. But today, we can claim all our good and bad choices and create a space that allows us to never regret where we’ve been…viewing all our experiences as lessons. Time pushes forward and so must we, there is more to learn and more to give. The hands of time take us firmly by the hand and show us that we can intrepidly recreate our future, without ever looking back.
Like the song said, I’ve really never felt quite the same, but I know there is more life ahead, and so much more to learn and know. And it is up to me to live my life in a way that will bring peace to my spirit–because the past can never be recovered, but the future can be recreated with patience, determination and resolve.
Walking through the world of Pittershawn is like swimming with dolphins around the rings of Saturn. Always an out of this world experience that leaves you with a smile
