What don’t you hear? Listen carefully. Try to figure out what is physically missing, but spiritually present.
The piece you’re listening to is Thula Mtwana by Ladysmith Black Mambazo and choir from the African Lullaby album. It is such a soothing piece that vibrates deep and long. It carries the listener along and rocks to sleep.
Have you figured out what is missing yet?
Ok, ok, I’ll tell you. Instruments. There are no instruments beyond the singers’ voices. Yet, it is easy to miss this little detail. But the talent of my people is so incredible, one can easily be lulled into the rich and vibrant sounds, without realizing what is absent. But what is absent, is ultimately filled with what is present. Our natural abilities effortlessly fill what some might call an empty space, giving life to the lifeless.
Yes, our voices soothe.
Pittershawn…thanks again for sharing your spirit…i fell in love with both song pieces. I immediately went surfing for them to add to my playlist…see how you directed me and as well I followed your directions to listen and close my eyes…wonderful. I will be sharing these two musical pieces with my students of your alma mater…the room will be alive with a part of you!

I listened to the song first thing this morning. It was indeed relaxing; so much so that I immediately wanted to go back to bed. I closed my eyes and listened. Songs sung a capella always grab my attention.
