a bird nest • october 18, 2009
Today I discovered an abandoned nest in a tree. It is amazing to see how other neighbors on earth create their living spaces. The structure was tight, packed with not only twigs, but earth compacted all around. The nest was strong, clearly meant to withstand all types of weather.
I looked at the small structure and wondered what it must be like to be a bird. What is it like to have the natural ability to create my own living space, no blueprints, no hammer and nails, just nature and my body…my labor.
The nest served its purpose, and like most creatures on earth, once it outlived its usefulness, the residents move on and let life take them where it may…unhindered by laws, and taxes, borders and enslaving notions. Just fly away…that is what they do. New residents who are grateful for the labor put into the nest, move in and let their lives unfold…unhindered by taxes, borders, laws and ownership. All is for all. And shared by everything.
What would it be like to just fly away?
