As a writer, one of the many challenges is learning how to find my voice.  Many have wasted valuable time mimicking authors they have read throughout the years, always wondering why something in the writing was missing. I know, I’ve been there. It’s daunting at times.
But finding my voice allowed me an incredible freedom and a lowered sense of anxiety around creating a story. My voice, I discovered, felt more natural. I didn’t have to pretend I was a writer; I could really be a writer, using my personality, my soul, my imagination and unique twist with words.
Using my own voice also lends itself to better creativity. I’m able to get my story onto the paper more effectively and efficiently. Not to mention that it’s simply more fun!
At first, I didn’t care for my voice. It felt awkward and seemed to lack that something special I saw in many of the works I read. But writing daily helped me to hone my craft, and better exercise my voice. I still have much work to do, but at least I am writing ME.
