something different week 19: one night

This entry is part 20 of 32 in the series Something Different Series

Try something different. For just one night, maybe tonight, go through the entire night using only candle light. Don’t turn on any artificial light. Grab a bunch of candles at the dollar store and bring your home to life in a new way. Carry a candle when going from room to room; ensure each room you are using is lit only with candles.

Come back and share your experience. What was it like to live for a moment in the past?

something different week 18: a walk

This entry is part 19 of 32 in the series Something Different Series

Talk a walk. Walk for 30 minutes to an hour. Yes, I know, that seems like a long time, but try it. Walk alone. Afterwards, come back and share some of the things that went through your mind. Did you find that you did more thinking than you usually do?

quote: each new book

Truly each new book is as a ship that bears us away from the fixity of our limitations into the movement and splendor of life’s infinite ocean.” – Helen Keller

something different week 17: a truth

This entry is part 18 of 32 in the series Something Different Series

Imagine you are exposed to an incredibly horrific truth. You learn that 80% of the world’s population will be killed by intent. Would you expose that truth, and subject yourself to potential ridicule, and a life of ruin? Or would you live out the rest of your days in silence? Either way, why would you make your choice?

something different week 16: your existence

This entry is part 16 of 32 in the series Something Different Series

Imagine that how you got here, into the universe, was not through anything sentient.

How would/could/does this change the way you see your existence and the existence of this world?

something different week 15: enslaved

This entry is part 15 of 32 in the series Something Different Series

Something right now enslaves you. It could be material, intellectual, spiritual, emotional, etc. If you could free yourself of this thing, how could or would it change your life?

My shackle: I have not learned yet how to completely free myself of materialism. I’ve made huge strides in many areas. I’ve minimized a host of things in my life. But a few vestiges remain that I wish to be free of. One such vestige is the cell phone. I want to be free of it, but I feel as though I will lose contact if I do. I often think, did we have this anxiety around losing contact with loved ones before cell phones existed? I continue to work on this. One day I will be free of it.
