looking at the world

IMG_6640.JPGOutside my window I see a host of trees. They each stand tall and strong, watching over my home like praetorian guards. Little animals scamper about while the deer graze on various plants created by mother earth for their consumption. Birds fly above and through the trees. A bluejay that has made this patch of woods its home stops at the same tree almost daily.

Everything around me seems to work harmoniously. Deer periodically make a run for it, as something they have reason to fear cracks twigs through the forest. Maybe it is the black bear I’d seen a year ago. It was a calm creature, at least so it seemed from a distance. I took its picture. It almost posed for the camera. As it walked nearer to my doorstep, I stepped back, further into my door. It stepped back, as though afraid that my sudden movement meant danger. I’m sure it knew it had nothing to fear, given that its weapon for defense was nature made and powerful. One swipe of its claw and I would have nearly deflated like a balloon.

The ecosystem that surrounds me never ceases to amaze me. It is a vast world, all housed on no more than three acres of land. Yet in that small space, I can see how alive the world is. It breathes and moves and changes and grows and learns and evolves.

There is nothing more beautiful that being alive…even as people attempt to thrust us into darkness….life is still beautiful. There is amazing potential in the universe. I hope we can all some day grab hold of that potential and allow ourselves to be lifted from the strange forces that relentlessly want to make this place a wasteland.

seeing in color, thinking beyond limits

I wonder how others see the world around them. Do they take what is handed to them and live only within the context of the imagination, or lack thereof, of others? Or do they pursue ways of thinking that defy everything they know, believe and are comfortable with? Can we truly imagine a different kind of existence that does not conform to the status quo? Can we imagine a creation that is neither god centered nor evolution centered? When did we stop imagining greater things not centered around destruction, control and self aggrandizement?

We find ourselves in this place of infinite possibilities, infinite worlds and an infinite amount of ideas that could uncover how or why we exist. Maybe there is no how or why and that is what we will soon discover. Either way, I am challenged when I listen to the every day ramblings of men, women and children who have been taught to only think certain thoughts and explore certain conversations. All I hear is the incessant parroting of the latest news report, song, movie or sitcom. People talk about only those issues they are prompted to talk about–the latest commentary made in bad taste, or the latest crime against a fellow human–single theories postulated by a handful of humans, as though each human cannot postulate all the vast possibilities existing in the universe. As though all theories must stem from the voice of a few…and everyone else should simply believe it without question…never interject on the so called great minds of the world…as though their minds are the only minds capable of housing greatness, or expounding on our existence…as though their minds are even great at all. The populace have no voice.

things unseen

There are things going on in this world that happen oftentimes out of sight. But as we all know, just because we don’t see something doesn’t mean it isn’t there, and it certainly doesn’t mean it isn’t affecting us in some way.

Things unseen can keep us from achieving our goals and seizing our destiny. I wonder sometimes why certain things happen in certain ways. Why are some things allowed while other things disallowed, things that are seemingly harmless. And who decides?

This world is filled with myriad things I cannot begin to comprehend. Wrapping my head around some of the insanity takes great effort. But as time goes on, I can clearly see that many of those things unseen are kept that way by intent.

It is left to be “seen” what that intent is.
