Hands down, I would say I’m snobbish about books. I rarely loan my books to others. When I do, I must be sure, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that the person will in fact read it. Otherwise, they are welcome to buy their own book and read it at their leisure. But I expect any book I loan out to be read within a reasonable time, or promptly returned. I know, I’m bad. Don’t judge me and don’t laugh at me. I know some of you are laughing anyway as you read this. That’s ok, I can take it.
Books are so near and dear to me. They are friends come to tea. I love to be surrounded by books because it is like being surrounded by my ancestors who are filled with knowledge and wisdom. I can honestly say that books are the only thing I’m a huge snob about. However, if I know that someone is a die hard reader, they will always have freedom to roam my library, which is now over 5,000 books strong.
Maybe I need books anonymous?
Naaahhh! I’ll stay addicted to my books.

I enjoyed reading this and I agree completely. To me, failure to return borrowed books is completely unacceptable. I hope to have as many books as you someday. I read somewhere that Paradise must be a library and I am sure you agree 🙂
I love my books too, so I agree!
Wow that’s quite a library! We have nowhere near that many but some of our collection is pretty obscure – old text books, electrical manuals, etc. I too adore books; mine do not get loaned, period. You’re nicer than I am!
The only books I am snobbish about are my Stephen King ones. I once loaned ‘From a Buick 8’ to someone and never got it back, despite numerous times of asking for it. Now my Stephen books go nowhere. Nor does my ancient and battered copy of ‘The Hobbit’ given by my English teacher, or my first edition of ‘The Adventures of Tom Bombadil’. Other than those, because I buy most of my books second hand from charity shops, for pennies, I am happy to hand them around and not be worried about getting them back 😉
I love my books too, and agree with agonyandecstacy that Paradise must be a library.
I dislike those who return my books mutilated, or forget to return. Sheen.
Whoa…5000 books.. good going..I’m a huge book fan too..but most of them have been brought from library…truly envy your collection 🙂
I relate. Nicely said. :o)
Smart advice. I love books and hate it when I forget who I have loaned them to. I rarely lend books these days.
